i fran i should get the overtime, because i am a student and i lived with my fiance and i will do anything for my studies and for my fiance. i will do work hard just have a money. WHO GETS THE OVERTIME?
During the activity, our group unanimously chosen Abigail Mapoy as ‘Kim-the-Supervisor’. And going by the rule of clockwise assignment of roles, by chance I was assigned to be ‘Sara’. There is a given statement in the activity that “When facts arise that are not covered by the roles, be creative; make up things that are consistent with the way it might be in real-life situation”.
I (as Sara), should get the overtime. I became the breadwinner just as after my Father died. I still have a Mother and *five* brothers (younger than me, they’re all studying) to support. I am responsible for them. I’m just borrowing money from the Mountain’s Power Company, where I worked part-time, I do not have any other source of income. I carry full-load of junior subjects in my Business Administration Major course, but I was still able to maintain a good average in spite of my circumstances, proving how competent I am.
If given the chance, I’m willing to stay on Mountain’s Power Company after I graduated since it’s been helping me a lot through my current situation now. I’m the most deserving amongst the employees. Both parties (my family and our company) will benefit much, if I am chosen for the overtime.
How we argued to get my overtime:
Kim-the-Supervisor and the two observers were just listening on how we suppose, to convince them to have our overtime. I was able to convince the two of my group mates, who voted for Sara (my character). 3 votes for Sara (Fran, Lynn, and including me), 1 vote for Chris (who voted himself), and 1 vote for Adrian (who also voted himself). Chris was consistently explaining his side hoping for some sympathy by bringing out his three young children, in which he didn't state the ages, so we suppose that they’re all babies or toddlers. Who are in most need of just milk and baby food. He states that he was able to get some income from harvesting fruits and vegetables where he also didn’t state whether it is fair, so we also assumed it is fair enough to be having another source of income. He’s been in the company as a full-time employee for four years. He is 22 years of age, I suppose a graduate from the same course of me (Sara). The next one, who also voted himself, is Adrian. He holds superiority among us, claiming the overtime and nothing else follows.

I’m also an independent man .I live with my fiancé and we’re planning to tie the knot early next year that’s why I need an extra income because I want to give my bride the wedding which is any bride would like to have.

I’m playing the role of Sara
In our activity we choose Mhaiverick Mamador to play the role of (KIM our supervisor). We work in the Mountain Power Company District Headquarters in Green Valey Virginia. Each one of us needs to earn money for our own reason. And when the supervisor said that overtime work is required, all of us are interested.
I should get the overtime because ever since my father died money is scarce for my mother so I helped her to support my younger brothers. And also I am just borrowing money in Mountain Power Company so that I can continue my study. I am taking up Business Administration and been carrying a full load subjects at junior year but still I maintain a good average in spite of my work at the Mountain Power Company. And I am also willing to work in their company if I will be given a chance after I finish my degree. I will make sure that I will do my best to meet their expectation and I will not let them down.

First, If I saw my subordinates or my employees having an argument and they want to have or to get the overtime, the first thing that I'm going to do is to stay calm, to listen to them and to think. While listening, I'll focus on their point or what they trying to say. I also put myself in their shoes in order to understand them, also keep myself in a proper decorum professionally. Before I speak, I really need to think very careful in order to make a good decision and to don't offend other people (in a nice way either). And when I speak, I’ll talk calmly, with proper accent, tone of voice and my body language as well. In this way, they might listen to me and respect me as their leader.

Chris, I know that your money is budgeted but you still have some stores of vegetables and other crops, also pigs. Somehow there’s a way where you can find money. If you want to earn more, why don’t you try to sell food here like cooked vegetables or pork steaks, or any viand will do. I allow you so that you can earn anyway. But I won’t give you the overtime. Sorry, I think this overtime is not for you.
Adrian, you’re so godly! I know you’re saving your money for your future. I adore you on that. But maybe this overtime would not be yours, but don’t worry. I’ll look for some other opportunities for you in order to save more and to earn more. Is it okay with you?
Fran, I know that you really need the money to go back to school and you and your fiancé were living together. You know fran, marriage is not that easy thing. If you want to study then focus on it. If you want to become a father, have your own family then focused on it. It is very hard to combine two things in one. You need to decide very carefully to that. But since you are one of my employees and I like the way you work I’ll help you to make a scholarship. For you to have a free schooling while working here in our company. But promise me, that you’ll still do your job well. Sorry, but overtime is not even yours.
Lynn, I know you and your husband were newlywed-couples. And you and your mother-in-law were not that okay. But since she’s your mother-in-law you have to deal with her. Why don’t you impress her? Maybe next time she’ll like you? And you don’t even need to rent house? By that you can earn instead expensing it to rent right? I won’t give you the overtime but I’ll help you with your mother-in-law okay?

I’ve chosen Sarah for the overtime. Why? Because her father died and she was the only one who’s supporting her family, besides she is borrowing money for her schooling. Overtime was the one idea for helping her. I know that you’ll understand her. Chris you can make food for us to sell, Adrian, you’re living alone so you don’t need that much money. Fran, you can make scholarship and earn and lynn your problem was only on your in-law. But sarah, she’s the only one who make money in their family. So I’m giving to her the overtime. Giving her chance to help her family.
Don’t get mad at me, don’t make a bad feeling inside. I know that life is so hard and money is the one thing that you need to survive. I’m trying my best for you to make a good salary for your families. But before that we need to understand each other, have a teamwork, and by that we can be successful.
Another thing, why don’t we rotate the overtime? For us to make some rest and others can work for money. Is it a good idea? But for now, Sarah will be the one who get the overtime. I hope you understand me, you understand Sarah as well. I thank for your cooperation.”
As the way I speak, I try to fix or troubleshoot all their problems also by saying good words to them to not be disappointed also to not be offended. Maybe I can’t give the overtime to those I didn’t, but I look for other opportunities for them. And for the one I give the overtime, I hope she do her tasks or job well because if not her overtime will be wasted and she wouldn’t be able to help her family.

In our meeting, the first thing we do is say “Good Morning” to our supervisor Ms. Kim that role by Ms. Abigail Mapoy, and Ms. Kim asked to please set down and we replied it “Thank You Maam”. Ms. Kim start to inform the group that she needs to have 1 person to work overtime in the company and let the group decide whom the overtime must be given and Ms. Kim told the group that each one of them must give their side and the first one is Ms. Chris that role by Ms. Claudine Lim, that overtime must be given to her because she had 1 child and her husband had no work and always push him to find some extra income, but she had extra work in the farm. The second one is Mr. Adrian that role by Ms. Marielle Cruz, he told the group that overtime must be given to him because the 10 percent of his salary is donated to the church and also He need to buy materials for his small house and will be married if he found the right one. The third one share her side is Ms. Sarah that played by Ms. Marjorie Sto. Tomas, she said that overtime must be given to her because her dad past away and she is the breadwinner of her family and need to support her Mother, younger brother and as will as her studies, she is only responsible to her family. He just borrowed money from Mountain’s Power Company, where he worked part-time, she had no extra income. The fourth one share his side is Mr. Fran played by Ms. Sophia Ladores, that overtime must be given to him because he always need money and he live with her fiancé and he is also a student and had a car that always need to repair. And lastly shares her side is Ms. Lynn that role by Mr. Abligue, he said that he need overtime because he feel uncomfortable with his in-laws and he want to separate from them.
When each side already heard by Ms. Kim the supervisor, she said that “you all decide” the 2 member in the group Fran and Lynn vote for Sarah, and also Sarah vote for herself so she had 3 vote out of 5, and Adrian vote for herself and also Chris vote also to herself. The argue start between Sarah and Ms. Chris, when Ms. Chris continue to explain and want to obtain the sympathy of other member, but Ms. Sarah got the highest vote because Sarah has no extra income, while Ms. Chris had an extra income in the farm. So the overtime was given to Ms. Sarah.

Ms. Kim, I’ve been here in the company since 2010. I’ve been very dedicated to my work and you know how much I need money. Me and my husband only raised chicken and sell vegetables enough for us to eat 3 times a day but still, I need extra source of income for the basic needs of my family. I can’t settle for just one job because I have 3 young children who needs to be enrolled in school and also I can’t blame my husband for not helping me because he have disability. I hope you could consider my concern for the overtime.
To Sara (Marjorie Sto. Tomas): I would like to say condolence to your father. I know that it’s been very hard for you to move on and I know you still have brothers to support but look, you are an excellent student, there are a lot more opportunities for you to grab unlike me who have spouse and 3 young children to feed and i didn’t even get to finished college. Who will hire someone like me? This company is my only chance to help me to support my family needs. I also hope you could understand what I’ve been going through right now.

Who Get's the Overtime? PART 1
On our HBO class yesterday, we had groupings (at least 7-8 members) and each group is tasked to do role playing. And each member is given different roles to portray. There are only 6 roles to portray and the other 2 members will become the observer. After we had given our designated roles that is the time where we will start the role playing. And, I, Risa Ogawa, who is in-charge of observing our group, will give you details on what happened to our meeting and on how we end up in choosing who will get the overtime. And at the same time, I will be giving comments to my members who give their best in portraying their roles. So shall I start?
We started with the scene where Kim (the supervisor, played by Abigail Mapoy) called the employees to discuss something important. After all the employees gathered in Kim’s office, Kim started to discuss the overtime assignment to the employees, as well as its opportunities and benefits. But she also stated that only one is to be selected. After the discussion she then asks each employee this question, “Why do you think you’re the one who deserves to get the overtime?” She started with Chris (played by Claudine Lim). Chris began to tell his story and his story goes like this, “I have a family to feed. I have 3 young children and my wife doesn’t have any work. I am the breadwinner in my family. I am their only hope. Unfortunately, my salary is not that enough to support them. So if I have spare time I raise chickens and vegetables together with my wife in order for us to have extra income. So I hope you will choose me because I badly need this and I deserve to have it.” After hearing Chris story, Kim now proceeds to Adrian (played by Marielle Jean Cruz). And Adrian went like this, “I deserve the extra work. Why? Because as you all know I work in this company for the past 10 years. I also give 10 percent of my salary to the church and I have been building my small home for my future family. It has been 2 years since it started because I have to save up for the building materials. And with this reason I believe I am more likely to have the extra work.” After Adrian, Kim now continued with Sara (played by Marjorie Sto. Tomas) And Sara answered, “I am the most deserving and qualified to have the overtime. I am a working student, currently in my junior year. I have been working for myself as well as for my family. I help my mother in supporting the expenses of my younger brothers because my mother cannot carry it all since my father died. In short I am the only source of living in my family.

In terms of my education, I only manage to pay for it because I have been borrowing money from someone. With this situation of mine I suppose I am the most capable to have this overtime work because it will be of great help for my family and for my education as well. So I am hoping that I will be the one you consider to get this overtime.” Next to Sara is Fran (played by Sophia Andrea Ladores) and Fran said this, “Just like Sara, I am also a working student. I live with my fiancé and we both share with the expenses. I have a car and its old, thus it requires everyday repairs. With this the salary I get is not enough to sustain my needs. I also wish to enter the MBA program at Midwest University so I really wanted to get the extra work for my wish to be fulfilled. I hope this reason of mine is enough for you to consider me.” Lastly, is Lynn (played by Joseph Ablid). She stated, “I am married and we live together with my in-laws. I find it uncomfortable because I feel that we’re burden to them. So we decided to rent a house but we cannot afford it because I am a newly employed, my husband only works half-time because he’s having a difficulty to find full-time jobs. My in-laws then promised to help us collect the other half. That is why we are very frugal, we only buy things we need and we planned to have no children unless it has been settled. I hope I can get this overtime work for me to prove to this company what I learn in my two-year degree and that I am capable and have the skills to work into management.”
After Kim heard the entire employees story, she said to them “You are all qualified to get this overtime work because base on your stories you all need the money. But unfortunately only one will be chosen. And I let you decide on that among yourselves. You heard each stories right, so I think you have an idea on who is in most need of the overtime work.” Kim asked each employee if who is the one they are going to choose to get the overtime. Chris, Adrian and Sara chose themselves while Fran and Lynn chose Sara because as Fran said “I think Sara must be the one to have the overtime work because her family needs it and her as well. I can manage to not use my old car instead I can go to work and school by means of commuting with that I can save up from repairs that my car gets whenever I use it. And with my plan on entering MBA program, it can wait. Instead I will try my best to work harder and save money so that by next fall I can enter MBA and continue my studies.”

As for Lynn, “I choose Sara because I can see that her family is in highly need for money. She works hard to support the living of her family and I can see that she has the sense of responsibility and dedication because even if she is working she never let her work affects her studies. As for me, I think I can cope up with my problem. I will just strive harder” Then Chris starts to talk again and say, “No; I should be the one to get the extra work because I have family to feed too. Sara as we all know is a student and doing well in her studies and I believe with that she can find better opportunities.” Sara then said, “But you have other source of income, unlike me who doesn’t have any.” Then Adrian also said something, “No, I think I should be the one because considering my long work experience in this company I am the most qualified. I’m an achiever, workaholic and getting the job done is my top priority. So I think I should be the one.” Sara then said, “It’s not about how long you have work for this company but the dedication you put on your work. I may be a part timer here but you can see that I’m very dedicated and responsible in doing my job. I don’t let my work affects my studies and vise-versa. And I also love my work in here because the feeling of congeniality and good morale is felt in the office. If possible I may want to work here after I graduate if there is a vacant position or if this company offers me a job.”
After this long discussion the team now decides to let the overtime work go to Sara. And that’s the end of our meeting. For me all of them played their roles beyond expectation most specially Sara, Chris and Adrian who proves that they are really worth to get that extra work. Also Kim manages the group very well. She explains everything to the group, listen to their stories and she does not decide on her own but she let the group decides for their own.

I'm Chris, and I deserve the overtime. The main reason is that the money that I earn is not enough to support my kids. I want my children to be successful in the future by giving them all my effort, I want them to be a better person than me because I believe that they can do better things. I really need this overtime, selling vegetables and raising animals will not help me raise my children, I need extra income to give my family a better life even if I sacrifice a lot of things, I know all of that will be worth it in the end, I want to be the best father for them. This company plays a very important role in my life and in fact I’m already attached to it, I've been working hard for this company for several years, giving my best and everything to do a good job. I will always do my best to prove that I’am the one who deserves overtime.

Before our meeting , Ms. Kim ( Mhay ) saw her employees arguing about who’s deserving to get the overtime. The first thing Ms. Kim did was to listen to her employees. Chris was the first employee who speaks and she said that she needs money because the money she earn is not enough to support her kids , that she want her kids to be successful in the future by giving them all the effort she have. She also sells vegetable and she raises animals , but she think that this is not enough for her family. Second was Adrian ( Crisa Belle ) he said that he needs to get this overtime for him to save money for the near future. Third was Fran ( Camille Bacuetes ) he said that he needs the overtime because he is living with her fiancé and he needs support for his studies . Fourth was Lynn ( Kyle ) , she and her husband was a newlywed-couple and they are living with her in-laws , unfortunately she is not okay with her in-laws so she want to separate , and in able to do that she really needs money so that she have income to rent a house. Lastly , Sarah ( Armina ) , her father died and she’s now the only one supporting her family , she’s just also borrowing money in Mountain Power Company to support her studies . After hearing each and everyone’s reason for having an overtime , Ms. Kim decided that she must give the over time to Sarah because she’s the one who deserve to have it. She’s the one who have enough reason to get the overtime pay. Ms. Kim also explain that Chris , Fran , Adrian and Lynn has something to do to resolve their financial problems , Ms. Kim give them some way to earn money not just by overtime.

TumugonBurahinSo my role was Kim ‘The Supervisor’. I find my role as an effortless character to portray among the other characters but I probably played the most powerful character in the story because first I’m the Supervisor here so I have the superiority *evil laugh* and I’m the one who’s going to choose who gets the overtime but kidding aside, I don’t want it to be done that way though it’s the simplest way to point my finger to a person who gets the job but I know it’s not fair for others and I’m not as evil as that. So it goes a little something like this, I gathered my subordinates and inform them that I’ll be needing a person for a new job of course with the benefits the she/he might get from it but unfortunately, just one of them will be chosen. So the dilemma is not just who’s gonna gets the overtime or who’s the most qualified for the job, But the dilemma would be on how they’re gonna make a decision for themselves whether it’s for own sake or for their loved ones and how they are going to decide as a team or group with their own & different dilemmas in life and last, on how they’re gonna deal with the decisions they’re going to make. So each of them tell their stories and matters with a super convincing power, namely Chris, Adrian, Sarah, Fran and Lynn. Technically, they are all qualified for the overtime and it’s given and obviously that it’s Sarah who’s going to gets the job. But it’s not going to happen as simple as Sarah who’s the most in need so she gets the job, I want them to fight for their dilemmas, make a stand for what they are believing. So after hearing all their different stories and seeing their deep interest to the job, I tell them that I’m not the one who’s going to decide who gets the job but I’ll let them to decide for it because there’s this feeling that I want them to voluntarily give the chance to Sarah by not telling them to do that but for them to feel and realize that this is the best way to do and for them to have no hard feeling for each other.
