In order to help explain the various leadership styles, i'll use a set of descriptive characters which people tend to assume as roles when faced with the task of managing a group of people.
Fielder's Contingency Model Theory
A leader who follows this model can be likened to a Dancing Master. The leadership style of the Contingency Model as described by Fielder is that of a person who makes decisions in response to the personalities of their members. Its is a fact that each of us have our own idiosyncracies (unique patterns of behavior) i'm weird, some people are formal and serious, some are happy-go-lucky. Given these members, how will you make your members follow? If you try to know your members and make plans out of this, then you are using the contingency model - a Dancing Master. You are able to dance along the whims of your members
Hersey and Blanchard's Situational Leadership
The Ninja is trained to adapt to situations, this is my rendition of Hersey's and Blanchard's idea of situational leadership. This model says that a good leader makes plans depending on the situation. What if there's going to be a celebration event? How about if it will rain? What if there are possible unforessen situations that can happen during your meeting? A situational leader rises to each occasion.
Path-Goal TheoryThe path-goal model creates Shepherds. These leaders are able to outline a set procedure or path for his or her members to follow. Aside from provideing the path, sometimes this leader also herds the members along the way, and in the end provides a reward for having achieved the group's the goal.
